It was soooooo incredible. I don't have time to tell all I saw (but I'll have a pictorial post Sunday after I take the tribe), so I'll give a few highlights:
* I spit off the side of the ship like my husband said he had done so many times.
* I used the head.
* When standing by the bunks (four stacked on top of each other) where wounded had been transported from Normandy on D-Day (TWENTY TRIPS!), I was overwhelmed by emotion. Where I stood, the bunk I had my hand resting on, men had died defending this nation. I felt such great pride and respect for our military.
The ship is being restored. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make a donation to save one of only two LST's remaining.

Those ships are very impressive aren't they.
It makes you think about the REAL hero's of America.
Krystal,
My husband is a volunteer on the LST 325 and has been for 5 or 6 years. I am so proud of him. His Dad was on one of the LST's in World War II. The crew and additional female crew members spent all of last week cleaning and painting on the ship. They left Evansville for the trip to Kentucky.
If you take your "tribe" on Sunday, please look for him. His name is Chip Lanham, he will be wearing the red shirt and cap. He said he would give you a personal tour of the ship.
Thank you and everyone else for your support for the LST 325.
Take care,
Donna L. Lanham
DD2, yes, they are VERY impressive! The minute I stepped foot onboard there was just this...feeling. I met two men from WWII. It's our HISTORY! I can't wait for the kids to see it on Sunday. We're leaving right after Sunday School so we can be amoung the first ones on.
Donna, Thank-you so much! I wrote his name down and will definately ask for him Sunday!!! The kids don't know where we're going yet. It's a surprise. I told my husband that they were looking for volunteers. He said that he'd LOVE to work on it. I kept bragging about him to the vets on board. My Bear had been in charge of the engine room on the battleship he served on.
Krystal,
I am sure the LST 325 would love to have Bear on the ship. I am so excited that you are excited about the LST 325.
Please take photos tomorrow so we can post them on the LST web site. Susie Bloom who is a major volunteer also posts all of their photos to the web site and keeps everyone updated as to what is going on. I will make sure that she receives them.
Chip is looking forward to meeting you tomorrow. I hope it is not raining or cold ..... well so be it the weather. We can all do cold and raining when we have to, you will still enjoy it.
Take care,
Donna
