I'm a Libertarian. I'm stating this because if I don't, and even though I have, I'm going to be accused of bias. Well whatever. I'm just going to make an observation, a political insight, and then give you the quote that spurred this post at the end. Well, maybe I should give the quote first.
Proudly stating her reason to campaign for McCain and her reason for not voting Democrat for the first time (lady was in her late 60's early 70's):
"I don't want that OTHER guy in there. I'm prejudice!"
She walked away. I just stood there stunned. I said that surely she didn't mean it that way. The other woman who was standing there said that yeah, she did, she'd mentioned it at least 3 other times that she was prejudice and that was why she was going to vote for McCain. This is not the first time I've seen the racism. It's just the most in-your-face time.
It is just more proof of what I've been saying for a long time. The Democrats have severely underestimated the number of racists they have in their party. While the party leaders try to portray the D party as for the minority, the TRUTH is that they either don't know the truth, don't care to know the truth, or simply turn a blind eye to the truth.
My mom and dad's family are both very strongly rooted in the Democrat party. My aunts, uncles, grandparents, all of them have been staunch Dems and heavily involved. My family members have been delegates to national conventions and been in charge of good sized fund raisers for decades. It's a generational thing.
Every single one of them highly prejudice.
When my cousin married a black man and had his children, her own father would have nothing to do with his grandchildren. The eldest, about four or five at the time, tried to talk to him. My uncle turned away and shouted, "Get that NIGGER away from me!" My uncle's dead now. The world is better off without him.
Over the last ten-fifteen years, some of my cousins and aunts and uncles have been undergoing a few changes. A good number of them have done two huge things; they've dropped the prejudice and ironically, have switched parties.
Now they aren't the only dems that I've known. I know a lot of liberals. Most of them are prejudice. I know a lot of conservatives. Very FEW of them are prejudice.
I'm not saying that all liberals are that way. I'm just saying that every member of the KKK that I've ever met has been a Democrat, and most of them union. Most of the people I know who throw the "N" word around are Democrat.
But there's more.
When I speak to blacks who are Democrats, they hate the white man and blame him for all the problems in the black community. They're still screaming about slavery and riding its coat-tails. Now I'm going to give a little history lesson here that directly relates to my post and I'm sure you'll understand at the end. You're all smart people.
Slavery was only legal in the country of the U.S. for 87 years. It's been illegal for 145 years. Keep in mind that slavery on this land pre-dates the United States. Slavery was allowed on this land under ENGLISH law long before the American Revolution. It was truly early on after the birth of this great nation that the Abolitionist Movement began (they formed the Republican party in 1854). In actuality, the first official abolitionist group formed in 1775. The movement grew quickly after the Revolution, and by 1805 all northern states had ended slavery and every other state had limited the slave trade (except for Georgia). By the time the War of Northern Aggression started (it wasn't a civil war, look up the definition), less than 8% of households in the U.S. owned slaves. And as much as some loathe to hear it, some of those slave holders were in fact, black themselves.
It was Lincoln, the first Republican president, who abolished slavery in 1863. The cornerstone of the Republican party (formed in 1854) was the Abolitionist Movement. Their sole purpose for getting Lincoln elected to office was so he could end slavery.
Of course I'm aware that the battle didn't stop there. However, it was the Republican party that fought for voting rights for blacks. When the Democrats/Dixiecrats enacted the Jim Crow laws, it was the Republican party that fought to end them. While they were fighting for the minorities AGAIN, it was the Republicans who volunteered to teach blacks to read so they could pass the highly prejudicial tests that the Democrat/Dixiecrats enacted in the first place.
Just looking at history, the Republican party has been the one that has consistently fought for the equality of minorities while the Democrat party has consistently fought for the oppression of minorities. It still goes on today. Go ask minority parents who have to send their children to failing public schools where they want their kids to attend. They'll all answer "to a better school." Which party prevents this from happening? The Democrat party. By refusing to allow a voucher system which would allow low income, mostly minority family, an opportunity to send their children to GOOD schools, they succeed in keeping them a permanent underclass.
It sucks and it pisses me off!
So I sit here and laugh that the overwhelming number of minorities vote for a party that, at every turn, does all they can to keep them down. I sit here and smile at the fact that so many white Dems HATE blacks and Democrat blacks hate whites.
Here's the funniest part. The Democrats:
* are running a black man for president who has two people (that we know of) very close to him who have shown themselves to be, at some level, racist. We see it in his wife's thesis and his longtime minister's racist rants against whites. Obama's wife may have grown and changed, but Wright is still in the thick of his racism. I know that Obama said that he didn't know how Wright felt. I don't buy it. One of two things, either Obama is a liar and is racist himself (elsewise he wouldn't have been able to listen to the rhetoric) or he is THE most OBTUSE person on the face of the planet. There is absolutely NO WAY Obama attended the church THAT LONG and was personal friends with Wright for THAT LONG and not have known. Impossible. The man is either racist or obtuse.
* are full off of old Dixiecrats who WILL cross party lines and campaign for McCain for no other reason than to keep a "n*****" out of office.
I wonder if there will be enough minority (and dead) vote to make up for the Dixiecrats who are either going to vote for McCain or not vote at all.
Can't help it. Gotta laugh at the absurdity of it all.
I still like Ron Paul.

I'm not surprised. The Democratic party has LONG been the party of segregation, the KKK, (Hello? Robert Byrd?) and Jim Crowe (sp?) laws.
As long as the Dems promise just enough carrot to keep the average ignorant voter in their pocket, nothing will change.
Also, if you look at the poorest of inner cities that are predominately black, you will almost without exception find that they have been run by a Democrat for DECADES. Yet, these poor people are continually duped by the racist Dems that keep them under the thumb.
*sigh*
Ron Paul?
If I were going to go independent, it would be for Bob Barr! :)
Excellent post Krystal...shows your keen insight.
Posted it at my blog.
