Government Sticking Florida with Medical Bills for Haitians

Military Airlift of Haiti Quake Victims to US Halted

In a nutshell, the military has been flying in earthquake victims to Florida and it's taking its toll. "Florida's health care system is quickly reaching saturation, especially in the area of high level trauma care."

Not only that, but the U.S. Government hasn't even agreed to pick up the bills. THEY MAY STICK FLORIDIANS WITH THEM!

Poor coordination and limited resources, not costs, drove the governor's request, said John Cherry, spokesman for the Florida Division of Emergency Management."We've made it clear that (the cost) is an issue we'll deal with down the road," he said.

With what? Higher taxes imposed on the citizens of Florida?!

So my friend who lives in Florida is unable to afford her medication for VERY high blood pressure, is off another medication for another illness that is LIFE THREATENING, and can't get her PET scan (three bouts of cancer). But the U.S. Government is happily using Florida's medical system to the point of saturation (ie, FLORIDIANS will have to wait or be turned away) and may well stick FLORIDIANS with the bills.

I'm all for helping the Haitians, but NOT AT THIS COST! My taxpaying Floridian friend is being DENIED HEALTH CARE WHILE THE HAITIANS ARE OVERLOADING THE SYSTEM AND GETTING IT ALL FOR FREE.

But hey, I understand. I mean, her husband is dead so why would her sons, two whom are under 18, need her alive anyway? RIGHT? We MUST save the Haitians, but let the American taxpayer drop dead.

Peace Out,

I completely agree with you, Kelly. I can't think of a thing to add.

An uncaring and brutal Federal government? I can't believe such a thing.

There is such a thing as a proportional response. Rather than IMPOSING Haitians on the residents of Florida, there should be charity drive and care should be dependent on the amount of money the people of Florida decide to allocate from their pockets. THAT'S IT.

It's very easy for other people to spend your money for you, but it's not the function of the Republic.

Brooke, we usually DO agree! That's why we get on so well.

NG, the government is only brutal to its own citizenry.

LL, that's how I feel about ALL foreign aid.
