The Economy is Going to Get Worse

Obama Says Economy Likely to Get Worse

Obama introduced a recovery plan "equal to the task" that would be the largest public works spending program since the interstate highway system was build a half-century ago.

"...that means that we can't worry short term about the deficit..." Obama said during an interview that aired Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Let me translate for you. This is going to be THE largest SPENDING program in over fifty years. That means HIGHER TAXES, people. Now I realize some believe he will tax the wealthy and that this is okay (although the middle class picks up a larger chunk each time taxes go up). Know what happens when the wealthiest people get taxed higher? They cut back on their business (loss of jobs), they cut back on employee costs (less incentives), they spend less (more job losses).

And I thought that the deficit was a huge problem and it needed to be cut, not grown. I guess he's changed his mind...again.

I don't care who the president is, it is WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG to tax the people more so the government can spend more, redistribute wealth, and over all grow its own power.

I was against the bank bailout. I am against the bailout of the Big Three. I think it is irresponsible for the federal government to get invovled in these types of matters. I think it is wrong for the federal government to take money from one group of people and give it to another group they feel is more deserving.

May I suggest people start doing business in cash?

I am against bailouts too...however I fear if something isnt dont for the auto makers, there will be millions upon millions of people without work and thus will cause our economy more strife..

My dad is an engineer and helps develope parts..thier biggest customer is GM..if they go away, so does the place my dad works at, as well as other small factories around the country..its really sad..

But I wish the bank bailout would not of happend, because I hear they are still not lending money, and they are hoarding the money or using it in the wrong fashion..

Where the hell is all of this money coming from? It has to come from us...

RM, I understand what you're saying, but where do we draw the line?

When a business makes poor decisions, and CEO's get millions a year, and a unions makes unreasonable demands (the UAW has a good stake in the blame of what's happening here, make no mistake of it), the business IS going to go under. And it should be allowed to go under, despite the temporary effect on the economy. If we don't, things will NEVER change and the bailouts will NEVER end.

And THAT is what will ultimately, utterly, destroy our economy beyond repair.

Brooke, like I said, time to start getting paid in cash...

But, but, but...Obama's going to change the world. Why not just fix our country?

I didn't buy the "we have to do it" bunk on the mortgage bailout, I don't buy the Big 3's dire predictions either.

yeah, I think things are going to get even uglier in the next year or two, and Obama supporters in the hood are going to get angry that he isn't able to take care of them sooner. I hope everyone can stay calm as we weather this long, long economic storm.

Batman, I don't understand thinking global before we think local either.

M4444, deep breathing exercises may help.
