...when resue comes to dead people...

I know I've said many times that I get tired of my country being the world's watchdog and protector. But today I read an article about an agreement made between Poland and the U.S. The U.S. is going to have a missile defense battery in Poland, and Poland is going to have missiles for their own defense.

Why does Poland need missiles for defense? It may have something to do with Russia's threats agains the countries it use to control and its current unwarrant military actions in Georgia. Russia's response to a decision made in Poland? "Poland, by deploying (the system) is exposing itself to a strike — 100 percent." -Gen. Anatoly Nogovitsyn, deputy chief of the Russian general staff .

But why turn to the U.S.?

Well, for all the blustering from other countries about the need to take the time to go through world organizations to find peace, I think the Polish Prime Minister Donald Turk put it best, it would take "days, weeks to start that machinery...It is not a good situation when rescue comes to dead people..."

Maybe they turn to us because they know we'll get there faster.

Poland learned their lesson when relying on France during WWII...it only takes getting stabbed in the back once.
