Normally I hate France, but this made me smile.
France has denied citizenship to a veiled Moroccan woman on the grounds that her "radical" practice of Islam is incompatible with basic French values such as equality of the sexes.
"She has adopted a radical practice of her religion, incompatible with essential values of the French community, particularly the principle of equality of the sexes," said a ruling by the Council of State handed down last month and sent to Reuters on Friday to confirm a report in Le Monde.
The woman's application for French nationality was rejected in 2005 on grounds of "insufficient assimilation". She appealed to the Council of State, which last month approved the rejection.
The ruling comes weeks after a heated debate over whether traditional Muslim views were creeping into French law, prompted by a court annulment of the marriage of two Muslims because the husband said the wife was not a virgin as she had claimed to be.
"She has no idea about the secular state or the right to vote. She lives in total submission to her male relatives. She seems to find this normal and the idea of challenging it has never crossed her mind," Emmanuelle Prada-Bordenave wrote.
For once I have to say I agree with France. America needs to adopt this and enforce it. Either assimilate or leave. Personally I feel this way about any person who wishes to live in the U.S. It doesn't mean that they have to totally forget who they are or where they came from. It means that they willingly chose TO LEAVE where they came from to live here. So don't come here and try to make it into what you left. We speak English in this country. We shouldn't teach classes in any other language other than English unless it's a foreign language class. It is the responsibility of those who immigrate here to learn the language we speak and to live our way of life. If they don't like, they can leave.
So for the first time ever I am giving kudos to France. My goodness, first Al Sharpton and now France...what in the WORLD is going ON here?!

Ouch. Not sure I share your opinions.
Not everyone who comes to your country does so because they think it would be a nice place to live. Some do so because they have to.
And was this woman really trying to change France by wearing the veil? It's a piece of cloth!
I'm wondering if all of your ancestors from America or did they emmigrate from Europe and participate (however indirectly) in getting the Native Americans to assimilate to their culture?
The problem isn't with one woman in a burqa having the right to vote and choose government officials and thereby set laws. The problem occurs when there are 100, then a 1,000, etc. France wants to protect its way of life. It's doing that by not allowing citizen, and voting rights, to people who would come in and change it. And they will change it.
As for Native Americans, my grandmother was half Native American. It was horrific what happened! Not only were entire tribes obliterated through sickenss, slaughter and relocation, but many are unaware of the large amount sold off on the same auction blocks as the black slaves. The N.A. slaves kept running off and refused to reproduce in captivity, so they were sold off to the West Indies and Europe, from which they could never escape and would reproduce. In fact, N.A. slavery pre-dates black slavery in America. Yet it's only the black slavery that is discuss in our country. Just another tragedy in the history of country, the failure to teach the full truth of slavery.
As I'm sure you can tell, this issue is close to my heart. I don't want to see it happen again. Which is exactly what will happen to any country which allows citizenship or bends over backwards to those people who refuse to accept as their own the basic beliefs and principals of the country they've moved to.
My grandmother's ancestors were over powered (my grandmother and I weren't blood related so I can't claim blood relation to N.A., but she accepted me as her full grand-daughter). But now my country is in risk of handing itself over one person, one vote at a time.
My husband is half Hispanic. I speak some Spanish. All of our children speak English, and very little Spanish. In fact, we're trying to teach them now. But it comes SECOND to the language of the country we life in.
And if we had moved to Central America, as we once discussed, our children and I would have emersed ourselves in the language and ways of the country we moved to.
Because it's the right thing to do and it's what I expect of people who move here.
Wish I had time to leave a long one but for now ~ I'm there with you. People are shocked when they hear me say it but this is how I feel as well.
almost...to....deadline...*pant*
