Gas Prices

Let's review a few indisputable facts about the price of gas in the U.S.

1. We have vast amounts of oil under our own soil and off our own coastlines. The democrats have succeeded in preventing the drilling of said oil.

2. U.S. oil companies have not been allowed to build newer, more efficient refineries in nearly three decades because of laws passed by a democrat controlled Congress.

3. Oil companies make around 3-5 CENTS per gallon, while the federal government makes around 50 CENTS per gallon (the democrats are responsible for the vast majority of the gas taxes levied on the American people). Even local governments make more per gallon than "Big Bad Oil".

4. The skyrocketing cost of gas did NOT occurred after Bush went into office as the democrats would like everyone to believe. It had actually gone up a very small amount. However, since the democrats took control of Congress it has nearly DOUBLED!

5. The democrats have also succeeded in making an overwhelmingly large majority of the American people believe that the Republicans are to blame for the price of gas.

6. The angry outcry from the American people caused the democrats controlled Congress to call for the investigating and interrogating of "Big Bad Oil" and a demand to know why they make so much (again, the Federal government makes ten times as much without doing ANY of the work).

7. I will readily admit the Bush and the rest of the Republican party have been pansies about stating the truth about high gas prices. They've also not fought hard enough to end the democrat stupidity of it all. However, they are NOT the ones in the position to change the laws passed by the previous democrat controlled Congress, now are they?

The result? Mobil Exxon has announced that it just. isn't. worth. it. They have decided to get out of the retail gas business. That's right, folks. They make SO MUCH MONEY from gas that they've decided to call it quits (evidently most of their retail gas profits come from selling candy and pop). They are going to go into exploration and drilling instead.

Why am I telling you all this? Because I want to make sure that when the price of gas goes up again due to a shortage of gasoline (hey, they won't be running their refineries, that means less supply with higher demand), everyone knows who really is to blame,

Liberal, democrat, fools.

So...uh... I guess you're a Republican?

Just a hunch.

I'm wondering though... Who controlled Congress in the late 70s during the oil embargo? Was it not the Republicans?

Just asking.

I am a Libertarian. I think both sides are full of cattle dung.

I was born in '71, so I was 8 or 9 in the late 70's. I'd have to research that topic for serious discussion. However, I seriously doubt that an embargo three decades ago, which has long since ended, has anything to do with the current price of gas. The cause of gas prices NOW is lack of available oil, lack of refineries, too much tax on gas.

All of those are democrat doings.

Democrats controlled the Senate and the House during the entire 1970's.

From 1976-1980 they had control of everything - White House; Senate; House of Representatives.

Thanks, Batman. I was thinking that while Carter was in office he had a democrat Congress as well, but I wasn't sure and didn't feel like checking it out.

I still doubt that an embargo from 30 years ago has anything to do with today's gas prices. Yet it's a great example of how democrats up the price of gas and the republicans get blamed.
